Beautiful coffee service for 5 people. Brand: black stamp under glaze in the shape of a hieroglyph. Dating: Japan, 1950s. At the bottom of the cups is a lithophane with a portrait of a geisha. Lithophane cups were first created in the late 1800s. These cups are fine, made of porcelain of varying thicknesses, mainly from the Kutani region of Japan. When held up to the light, the lithophane image of a geisha is visible. The service is in very good condition with no damage or chips. Dimensions: diameter of the saucers 11.5 cm / 4.5 inches, diameter of the cup at the top 5.5 cm / 2.16 inches.
