A beautiful pair of early edition lounge chairs model “Cayenne” in original cognac leather and coconut palm wood, made by Pacific Green in Australia in the 1980s. The sweeping sides and backrest give the piece a sculptural presence, softened by the warm colour and beautiful overall patina of the original cognac leather. Pacific Green’s story began in Sydney in 1973 as Post & Rail, founded by Bruce Dowse and Peter Ryan. The company sought to develop a distinct Australian furniture identity through natural materials and tactile finishes. This interest in material character became a defining part of the brand’s approach. These lounge chairs reflect that sensibility through the contrast between the beautiful padded cognac leather seats and curved coconut palm wooden exterior, which was sourced in Fiji, an eco-friendly option already back in the 1980s. Visible leather lacing draws attention to the construction, while the stitched cognac leather seat follows the contours of the seat and back. Its striking shape is also interesting from the rear, allowing the chairs to be placed freely within a room. PS: A matching sofa is also available to create a complete set.
