French ship lanterns in copper of the nineteenth century. 19th century copper boat lanterns. Original red glass marked port. Authentic antique copper curved glass lantern. Some traces of time; a bump that we see in photo and apparently a foot to change the whole is in good condition especially for its age! It is written on the nameplate: comptoir, de fournitures généraux à la marine; 3 bd morland paris. Traditionally, navigation lanterns on board ships are equipped with two different glass colors to indicate the port (left) and starboard (right) side. This allows other ships to see which side a ship is approaching on at night or in poor visibility. Ships must therefore comply with international navigation rules on navigation lights to avoid collisions at sea. Height 38 cm without wrist. Width 30 cm. Depth 23 cm.
