Fornasetti wall plate – Tema e Variazioni n°96 "Butterfly"

A face that becomes a butterfly, or a butterfly that bears a face: this is the essence of Piero Fornasetti's humor. This plate belongs to the Tema e Variazioni series, featuring hundreds of variations on a single face, that of Lina Cavalieri, a 19th-century singer who became Fornasetti's muse. On number 96, her eyes and eyebrows form the upper wings, her lips and chin the lower wings, and an engraved insect body descends along the ridge of her nose. Surrealism to hang on the wall. The decoration is printed by transfer in the black and white engraving style characteristic of Fornasetti, with fine screen work, on white porcelain. Features. Manufacturer: Fornasetti, Milan, Italy.
