Antique landscape painting from the Victorian era, framed in a silver frame. Oil on wood by the German painter Josef Henfling (1877-1950) at the end of the 19th century. It depicts a picturesque European village with rustic buildings in yellow tones nestled in the Alpine foothills. A stone tower is located in the background on a hill, with distant mountains under a gentle sky. The artist's signature is placed on the left edge. A superb painting from the second half of the 19th century. The Biedermeier period runs parallel to the Romantic period, and both are characterised by similar traits: domesticity, closeness to nature, simplicity, and a need for harmony. The emphasis is on the simple, the conservative, and the tried-and-true. The artistic style is very realistic and shows a great similarity to photography. Idyllic domestic representations, beautiful landscapes, and impressive portraits are the most popular subjects for oil paintings until the end of the 19th century.
