Japanese sendai tansu (isho-dansu) of the nineteenth century in keyaki wood. a fine example of traditional cabinetmaking, it has a reddish-brown lacquered finish. This five-drawer chest of drawers has a rectangular top, sitting above a perfectly organized façade, accentuated by soberly worked ironwork, while the sides have handles for moving the furniture. With its clean lines, beautifully patinated appearance and practical storage. Known for its sleek and minimalist style so characteristic, the traditional interior of a japanese habitat, while sobriety, is devoted only to the essentials. In contrast to a much more extensive western-style interior architecture, a japanese dwelling has little furniture. However, there is one that we always find, it is the tansu... It looks like a sideboard or a trunk or a chest of drawers. High or low, in one or more parts, the tansu is the versatile piece of furniture par excellence. Long the prerogative of the imperial court, the tansu, then considered a luxurious piece of furniture, was reserved only for members of the aristocracy. Good condition of use  Dim. Height 100, 5 cm, wide 88 cm, depth 37 cm.
