Napoleon III had them at st.-cloud; jack and jackie used them at their wedding; and they were a ubiquitous presence in couture salons then and made a strong come back at the haute couture shows of chanel, saint laurent and balenciaga recently. Fun fact: lady dior bag’s signature quilting is a nod to napoleon iii’s chairs on which guests at the dior runway shows would sit.
