Superb and rare zoomorphic flower vase in glazed stoneware, shaped like a stylized fish by the famous ceramicist couple Ginette and Édouard Solorzano in Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle (Basque Country). An authentic piece from the second half of the 20th century, characteristic of the French Brutalist movement of the 1960s/1970s. Less common than the traditional owls and birds from the workshop, this fish shape is particularly sought after by collectors. The work features a beautifully mottled beige/gray satin glaze that complements the incised decorations in brown and pyrite hues (typical sun/eye motifs of the Solorzano). The perforations on top allow for creating graphic compositions of dried flowers or short stems. In perfect condition, with no cracks, chips, or restorations. A very sound piece. Handwritten signature engraved under the base: "G. E. St Pée N". • Height: 7 cm. • Width: 12 cm. • Length (from tail to mouth): 15 cm. • Weight: 483 g. A very beautiful piece of Basque popular art, ideal for enriching a 70s stoneware collection or adding a raw and organic touch to a teak sideboard. Carefully packaged for shipping.
