Grand Kilim Rug "Cherga" Vintage in 3 Hand-Stitched Panels - 264 x 184 cm

The pure authenticity of village domestic craftsmanship. I am offering for sale this large "Cherga" (traditional Balkan rug) measuring 264 X 184 cm, acquired in Bulgaria in the early 1990s. A precious witness to mountain weaving: This piece stands out for its archaic and fascinating structure in 3 distinct bands (strips). At the time, the small horizontal looms in village homes did not allow for large widths. Women therefore wove long strips of solid wool that they then securely assembled by hand. The beautiful original stitching, done in overlock with contrasting yellow thread, is clearly visible in the photos. Graphics and aesthetics: Rhythmed by a play of vibrant multicoloured stripes (red, green, yellow, indigo, orange) and small integrated white dotted lines, this piece displays a resolutely modern, almost pictorial look. Technical characteristics: • Material: 100% pure dense wool, thick, rustic, and very strong. • Condition: Superb vintage condition, very clean and perfectly preserved.
