Set of 4 19th-century British military Windsor chairs – WD stamped

This rare set of four hoop back Windsor chairs dates from the late 19th century and bears the WD stamp of the British War Department. The chairs impress not through ornament, but through proportion, material, and an honest history of use. Each seat is cut from a single plank of elm and shows a beautiful grain, enhanced by decades of use. The deep matt patina, worn edges, and subtle colour variations are impossible to imitate. A complete set bearing the War Department’s WD stamp is special, and the patina of these elm seats simply cannot be reproduced. Around a table they look calm and architectural; used on their own they are almost sculptures – perfect for a wabi sabi, rustic-minimalist, modern or country interior. Good condition, with authentic signs of use and a deep patina.
