Marine industrial lamp mek-elek

Large articulated reading lamp mek-elek in solid brass from the 1930s-40s. The little story: mek elek engineering was founded in 1931 on Douglas Street, London by HC Cooper. They produced exceptional industrial lighting for use in factories, workshops, and for the aerospace industry. These brass models were primarily used on submarines and ships for machinists' work or as table lamps for reading maps. Being made of brass, they will not rust when in contact with saltwater. The lamp rotates in all directions using a gear mechanism in the joints. The three double-elbow joints are not simply adjusted by friction... they have four gears on each of them. The base features a heavy mounting bracket and can be fixed to a table or wall. This is a significant lamp, extending 119 cm - bulb included - the cord measures 2 metres - Sold in its patina, it can be polished by you if you prefer a shiny gold appearance for your decor. A very rare piece with a unique design.
