Attention lovers of Brittany and unique objects: this milk jug is a gem that boldly reinvents the Breton style. In place of the motifs of the famous Breton earthenware factories, a dynamic and artistic scene: a Breton woman in a headdress and navy blue coat seems to be crossing a windswept Breton quay accompanied by an equally magnificent Breton sailor carrying fish with the lighthouse and the boat. The decoration is painted on two sides of the bowl (on one side two characters, on the other the sailor with a single fish… the Breton woman must have bought a fish!) The lines are spontaneous, almost sketched, evoking the free spirit of a travel journal. Every detail, from the gestures to the color, reflects a unique know-how. The piece is signed under the base with a monogram in the shape of a star or a stylized "AL" – the mysterious mark of a contemporary artist. Height: 9.5 cm. Diameter at the base: 9 cm, diameter at the opening 7 cm. Very good vintage condition. A mini chip at the base, wear on the edge of the spout. Bright colors and shiny enamel. Light wear under the base and age-related cracks on the bottom, typical of old pieces (see photos). A great gift idea for a lover of Brittany, or a collector of modern ceramics. I also have in my shop the matching bowl signed by the same artist with a different scene: the Breton woman with the fish!.
