Vase Studio Line, white porcelain, design T. Wirkkala, Rosenthal, Germany, 1960s.

The Rosenthal Studio Line vase, designed by Tapio Wirkkala in the 1960s, is an expression of the minimalist aesthetic of Scandinavian modernism. Made of white biscuit porcelain, it features a tall cylindrical silhouette measuring 16.4 cm in height and 6.2 cm in diameter. The exterior surface remains matte and unglazed, complemented by a regular rhythm of vertical grooves and a subtle geometric relief pattern that encircles the upper part of the shape. The lower part of the vase remains uniform, highlighting the simplicity of the lines and the purity of the material. The construction is devoid of handles and additional decorations – the whole remains uniform, with no visible joints or assembly marks. The condition is very good: no chips, cracks, or visible signs of use, and all original features are preserved. This vase carries the voice of the 1960s, when European design favoured restraint, clarity of forms, and the nobility of materials. Its matte white evokes a peaceful morning, and the relief perceptible to the touch seems to narrate the search for harmony between nature and geometry. Tapio Wirkkala, a master of subtle expression, has given this object a silent yet distinct rhythm – as if the porcelain wanted to whisper the simplicity that needs no adornments. The vase can be paired with other white or clear porcelain vessels to highlight its texture and line, or placed alone on a light console in the living room, where it will play with light and shadow. It will fit well in mid-century modern spaces as well as in minimalist and neutral settings. Accompanied by a single green branch or a blade of grass, it will showcase the sobriety of the form and the naturalness of the material.
