Pair of large Soholm ceramic lamps by Haico Nitzsche, Denmark

Pair of large Danish table lamps from the 1970s by Haico Nitzsche. Sculptural design with a floral motif printed in earthy-toned glazed stoneware. Haico Nitzsche trained in ceramics in Germany before teaching at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, India, from 1968 to 1970. Nitzsche was one of the leading creators of ceramic art forms in Denmark during the 1970s and was the technical director and designer of Søholm from 1974 to 1982. His work is always distinguished by functional objects with a strong sculptural essence. Made by Søholm Stentøj (Soholm Pottery) on the island of Bornholm, Denmark. Søholm Stentøj, meaning Soholm Stoneware, was founded in 1835 by Herman Sonne Wolffsen and Edvard Sonne. In the mid-20th century, Søholm produced a wide range of stoneware in various patterns and shapes. Several designers worked for Søholm Stentøj, including Einar Johansen, Maria Philippi, and Noomi Backhausen. Shade diameter: 35 cm. Total height with shade: 55 cm.
