Small enameled stoneware ashtray made by Georges Robin (1932-2023), a potter from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, in Nièvre. This piece features a circular and shallow shape, with a wide, slightly rounded rim, rhythmically marked by fine vertical incisions. Its superb glazing combines a deep red with raspberry, purple, and violet hues, contrasting with a cream beige edge. The variations in texture and firing effects add a beautiful richness to this small piece. Georges Robin (1932-2023) is an important figure in the ceramics of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye. He began his apprenticeship in 1946 in the workshop of Jean Maubrou, then operated by Pierre Pigaglio, where he trained as a potter before taking over Maubrou's workshop in 1958. He continues the traditions of artistic stoneware from Puisaye while developing his own creations, particularly pieces with characteristic red glazes. His workshop, which employed up to 23 people, continued its activity until 1987. The buildings now house the CNIFOP, a training center for ceramic professions. Georges Robin is referenced in the book "Grès de Puisaye, de Jean Carriès à nos jours – Marques et signatures, " dedicated to the history of potters and ceramists in the region. A small collectible piece, representative of the research on red glazes that established the reputation of the Georges Robin workshop. Dimensions: Diameter: 8.7 cm. Height: 2.5 cm. Condition: good overall condition, with some barely visible hairline cracks on the rim. Sold as is, in accordance with the photographs.
