Portico clock in white marble and gilded bronzes decorated with a temple of love supported by 4 columns with Doric capitals placed on an animated base decorated with bas-reliefs of foliage scrolls and gilded bronzes., with a center of a cherub in Sèvres biscuit. Magnificent quality of gilded bronzes. Perfect condition both in terms of the mechanism, the marble and the bronzes. H. 50 l. 29 p. 13 cm. This clock reflects the taste of the time and the neo-classical vogue in vogue in the 18th century, where the taste for antiquity and its ornamental repertoire were at the origin of models which enjoyed great success under Louis XVI. Bibliography: P. Kjellberg, “encyclopedia of French clocks from the Middle Ages to the 20th century”, ed. L'amateur, 1997: a comparable clock with some ornamental variations reproduced on p. 292.
