Bronze mantel clock with small Sèvres style porcelain plaque. Gilded bronze. France. 1880-1890 years. 30 x 38 cm. Frédéric Japy (1749-1812) founded the first watch mechanism factory in France in 1777 in Beaucourt. The factory's production increased significantly until 1806, when the company changed its name to Japy Frères, which then became Japy Frères et Cie in 1854. From 1850 to 1858, its production was signed like this example: “Japy Frères – Gold Medal”. She won several gold medals and medals of honor, both in exhibitions in Paris and other European cities. In 1855, she received the Grand Medal of Honor. After 1888, it changed its signature to "Japy Frères et Cie, Médaille d'Honneur", with a cross in the center.
