A striking example of mid-century British design, this rare and remarkable sideboard was designed by a prominent designer in the 1960s and expertly crafted from luxurious rosewood for Meredew. While Heritage is best known for his iconic designs for Archie Shine, he was an independent designer whose influence extended to many esteemed British furniture makers. His innovation and versatility earned him recognition as a prolific designer and distinguished professor of design at the Royal College of Art. Meredew, usually led by his talented chief designer Alphons Loebenstein, occasionally collaborated with outside designers, naming them in his catalogs when their contributions were particularly noteworthy. This exceptional piece is a rare find; its attribution to Robert Heritage was only recently revealed in a 1969 Meredew catalog in our collection. Despite its occasional appearances on the market, this model remains elusive and highly sought-after. What sets Heritage apart is its remarkable ability to create completely unique designs, unlike many designers who develop a unique style. Unlike Danish designer Ib Kofod Larsen, whose pieces often share common elements with different manufacturers, Heritage's creations are completely unique. This sideboard exemplifies his ingenuity and stands out from his other creations with its refined elegance and originality. A true collector's item, it embodies the refinement, craftsmanship, and innovation of one of Britain's most renowned designers.
