Terracotta water jug from Tonalá

Mexican water jug or "tinaja" from tonalá. Handcrafted and hand-painted terracotta. Canelo-style ceramic (bruñido type), unglazed but smoothed and polished with a stone, burnished with lard, and painted in shades of ochre, gray, and brown. Motifs of tonalá flowers, sun, and greenery. Attributed to master potter amado galvan. Very good condition. Mexico, state of jalisco, city of tonalá, circa 1940. Height 32cms. Diameter at widest point 22cms.
