China, late 19th ā early 20th century (late Qing / early Republic) Exceptional monumental low sideboard made of solid wood (probably Chinese elm ā yumu), covered with a traditional red lacquer that has a deep and authentic patina. Due to its rare dimensions and proven institutional use, this piece stands out as a museum-quality collectible. Key feature: the interior of the furniture (bottoms, sides, and compartments) is almost entirely covered with handwritten ink inscriptions, corresponding to regulations and administrative notes related to collective management (rice reserves, units of measurement, public/private distinction). The shelves (2 are not original) have been placed over these writings, evidence of real and prolonged use. At the back, the presence of an old red wax seal directly affixed to the wood corresponds to an administrative control seal (validation, closure, or inventory), a rare detail on furniture. Dating & authenticity: traditional construction, original hardware, preserved old patina, no heavy restoration. Dimensions: 276 Ć 54 Ć 92 cm. Condition: very good structural condition, old wear consistent with use. š Unique piece, probably from a temple, public granary, guild, or local administration.
