Mountain Landscape in Tyrol by Eduard Boehm (Vienna 1830-1890) Oil on large canvas, 19th-century Romantic. A beautiful romantic composition depicting a lively alpine landscape, attributable to the finest work of Eduard Boehm, an Austrian painter appreciated for his mountain views and picturesque scenes. The artwork features, in the foreground, a boat being manoeuvred with a pole by several figures, including children dressed in traditional alpine costumes, accompanied by livestock. To the left, a significant grove with already golden foliage structures the composition and introduces a shadowy area contrasting with the brighter light of the valley. The whole piece fully embodies the 19th-century romantic aesthetic: the smallness of human presence against the vastness of the site, the monumentality of the peaks, the contrasts of light, and the atmospheric depth all contribute to expressing this vision of the landscape as an experience of the sublime, where nature dominates man while enveloping him. This sensitivity, very present in 19th-century German and Austrian landscape painting, finds here a particularly harmonious formulation, blending rural picturesque with the majestic grandeur of the alpine world. • Oil on canvas relined with wax-resin. • On the reverse, on the stretcher, an old handwritten label in ink bearing the title “Gebirgslandschaft aus Tirol” (“Mountain Landscape in Tyrol”). Also present are chalk annotations corresponding to a previous public sale (lot 201). • Signed at the bottom left "E. Boehm". • Presented in a large period frame of gilded wood and stucco. • Very good overall condition of the pictorial layer. A tiny whitish mark at the bottom right, discreet and visible only from certain angles. The frame shows some nicks, signs of wear, and touch-ups to the gilding.
