It was intended for the staff of the department store 'De Bijenkorf' in Eindhoven, during the opening of the new building in March 1969. Both the building and the pen holder were designed by the Italian architect Giò Ponti. Ponti had designed a three-dimensional tile for the Bijenkorf building that contained different shades of green. It is said that Ponti got his inspiration for the building during his stay in the Netherlands, where he looked out over the watery, green landscape and was impressed by the windows of canal houses. The pen holder is made from one of these glazed tiles by Ponti. It has a copper setting with the inscription: 'Eindhoven 18 maart 1969' and the logo of the Bijenkorf. The pen holder is made by Ceramica Joo. When shipping, the item will be carefully packed to prevent damage. I ship in recycled and environmentally friendly boxes.
