This superb stoneware pitcher, crafted in the style of Jean Bordelais' workshops in Palinges (Saône-et-Loire), boasts an organic and slender silhouette typical of 1960s modernist forms. Its teardrop shape, sharp spout, and undulating handle give it a highly expressive, sculptural appearance. The deep blue glaze is enlivened by vertical ochre and sand drips, a vibrant decoration reminiscent of the chromatic explorations of post-war French ceramists. The warm contrasts and free-flowing brushstrokes lend this piece a strong decorative presence. Although unsigned, this model is clearly similar to the work of Jean Bordelais, whose factory in Palinges (71) was active from 1927 to 1976. Pieces from this production are distinguished in particular by their bold flamed effects and highly recognizable style. The handwritten number 38 is inscribed on the base. In beautiful vintage condition, with a slight patina and a small chip in the enamel on the handle (see photos). Height 21.5 cm, diameter at widest point 13 cm, width including handle 15 cm. A distinctive piece, perfect for adding character to a warm, modernist interior or a contemporary arty decor.
