Are you looking for a bench with history, character? One that bears the patina of its age? Well, this bench is made for you! It’s a lovely wooden bench, antique, beautifully patinated, with nice lines and lovely curves, perhaps made by an amateur craftsman for family use, as was common in all farms, or by the village carpenter for a chapel or church. When I found it, it was already in a town house, but I’m sure it wasn’t its first home; it probably dates from the first half of the 20th century. It was sleeping in a shed, not completely sheltered from the elements and woodworm! It has a multitude of woodworm holes, some of which were still active when I bought it. I completely coated it generously and several times with white vinegar (this is my natural method to replace chemical insecticides). Then I waxed it with liquid antique wax. Since then, it has been resting in my living room so I can monitor if the problem is resolved (presence or absence of small piles of wood dust accumulating on or under the bench), and it seems to be, but of course, we can’t rule out that I might have missed one of those little worms, so it’s up to you to take over the monitoring for a while longer and act if necessary: no panic, it’s nothing serious ;) inject vinegar with a syringe (or use commercial insecticide) into the small hole in question. It is therefore in generally good condition, still quite solid, with no crumbling parts, but it doesn’t hide its age: very numerous and varied marks (stains, scratches, chips, dents, woodworm holes). It measures 150 cm in length, 21 cm in width, and 46 cm in height.
