Description: Authentic hollow dish of Romanian folk art, originating from the famous pottery centre of Horezu. The ceramic tradition of Horezu is listed as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, reflecting a unique ancestral know-how passed down through generations. Aesthetic and technical details: • Decor: Adorned with a beautiful geometric and floral pattern hand-drawn using the traditional "comb" technique and slip. The centre features a large, complex radiant rosette, surrounded by a frieze of spirals and stylised relief patterns under glaze. • Colour palette: Typical traditional harmony combining a cream background with warm tones of brown/ochre, forest green, and subtle touches of bright blue. • Inscriptions: The piece bears the handwritten inscription "Romania" on the edge of the wing, as well as a hand-engraved artisan signature on the reverse around the base, explicitly mentioning the origin "Horezu". Condition: Very good overall condition for this beautifully crafted piece. The glaze exhibits stunning shiny reflections that highlight the richness of the designs. Technical characteristics: • Type of object: Hollow plate / Large presentation or wall dish. • Origin: Horezu, Romania. • Material: Terracotta / Handcrafted glazed ceramic. • Dimensions: Diameter 24.5 cm. • Weight: 700 g (heavy and robust pottery) • Signature: Engraved on the back (Horezu) and signed on the front ("Romania").
