Old soup tureen from sarreguemines theme fontanges, "terre de fer" is a trade name, a label that designates a ceramic in fine earthenware, halfway between earthenware and porcelain. It is mixed with the earthenware of feldspar (a mineral compound) and kaolin (a white clay), to make it whiter and more resistant.
