Ovoid vase in ceramic by Louis Dage (1885–1963), a French ceramist named Best Craftsman of France, active in Antony and then in Saint-Sever in the Landes from 1935. The body is covered with a granular white glaze, with a rough and tactile surface, characteristic of his research on relief glazes. The decoration is hand-painted, featuring light bouquets and scattered motifs: turquoise tulips edged in blue, golden yellow pansies with turquoise centres, blue buds, and tender green foliage on brown stems. The effect is fresh and spontaneous, almost naive, yet well mastered. The straight neck contrasts with the body thanks to a shiny glaze and a double frieze of yellow zigzags on a brown-black background. The vase is highlighted with a brown line at the base. The lip and interior are glazed brown. It is signed "L. Dage" in brushwork at the bottom of the belly. This is a beautiful piece from the interwar period. It is suitable for both a bouquet of dried flowers and for display alone on a console or shelf. Dimensions. Height: 23 cm. Width / diameter: 19 cm. Condition. Very good used condition.
