This magnificent magazine rack is from the English firm of S. Hall, listed by The Furniture History Society, which states that "Hall is recorded in The Furniture Gazette Directory, 1877, as a furniture maker and brass founder." He was located on Wrottesley Street in Birmingham. And he made some very fine things! He was also a cabinetmaker and a brass founder. This piece of furniture combines his two talents, with its three openwork, "wire-woven" brass dividers. Attached across the bordered solid mahogany top, they are obviously used to hold magazines or books. The two side dividers slope slightly outward at the top, like flower petals, while the larger one forms a handle, rising above the other two. There are two different, very finely crafted brass wire weaves, all in perfect condition. This is, in fact, the identical model to the one mounted on a swivel base that I'm also offering for sale, except that it has four brass feet screwed under the top, so it rests directly on the floor. There are some signs of wear and oxidation on the original gilding, but it's in excellent overall condition and looks great, especially when paired with its larger sibling (see last photo). I'm selling the same model but with a swivel base (see photo). H: 40 cm. W: 35 cm. D: 15 cm. The price is fixed, thank you. Delivery available to the Paris region for 40 euros.
