Late 1940s Czechoslovak Functionalist Étagère in Black Wood and Bevelled Gl
A refined late 1940s Czechoslovak Modernist étagère or occasional table, constructed from slender black-painted timber with three open shelves and an inset bevelled glass top. The exceptionally restrained geometric construction reflects the Functionalist approach that shaped Czechoslovak furniture and interiors through the interwar and early post-war periods. Traditional slotted screw construction and the carefully inset glass top are characteristic of its period manufacture. Its original function is unknown, although its proportions suggest use as an étagère, serving stand or occasional display table. Today it works equally well as a side table, bedside table or compact display piece. The piece retains age-related marks and wear to the black finish consistent with its age. The bevelled glass top shows light vintage wear and remains in good usable condition.
