Flavio Poli at Seguso Vetri d'Arte in Murano, rare multi-layered SOMMERSO vase, white band on black background, circa 1960. White line running through the vase in the manner of Fulvio Bianconi. In perfect condition. Biography: Flavio Poli (1900-1984) was an Italian artist known for his glass creations. Born in 1900, he trained at the Istituto d'Arte di Venezia and then began working as a ceramist. In 1929, he worked for the company "I.V.A.M." (Industrie Vetraie Artistiche Murano) as a glass designer. He was appointed artistic director of Barovier, Seguso & Ferro (later Seguso Vetri d'Arte) in 1934, where he designed a "submerged" style of glass, with multiple transparent layers, one on top of the other. After three years, he became a partner in the company, which he left in 1963. From 1964 to 1966, he headed the artistic glass division of the Società Veneziana di Conterie e Cristallerie. He died in 1984. Several of his works are held at the Murano Glass Museum, the National Gallery of Victoria, Australia, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and numerous private collections.
