Very good condition. *Born in 1954 in Salon de Provence, Gisèle Buthod-Garçon follows her own path to learn the craft of ceramics. At Catherine Mathieu-Dubourg's in Rouen in 1976, she experiments with ash glazing on stoneware. She continues her training in Provence at a tile factory in Salernes and then at a pottery in Nîmes, where she throws utilitarian forms, thus mastering the technique. She obtains a CAP with Suzie Atkins. In Gard, in Mandual, she builds her wood kiln and studies low-temperature firings. She finally settles near the pottery village of Saint Quentin La Poterie. Using the firing method known as 'American raku' invented in the 1950s by Paul Soldner, Gisèle works with contemporary raku in a sculptural manner, skillfully playing with colours that blend warm and cool tones, as well as matte, glossy, or pearlescent glazes. She gives her pieces simple, ample, and curved volumes and shapes. In 2013, the City of Roubaix dedicates an exhibition at La Piscine, André Diligent Museum of Art and Industry, to pay tribute to her work as a ceramist. In 2018, a new solo exhibition is held in Belgium (Louvière Kéramis) featuring 85 pieces. Her works are exhibited in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Korea.
