Small farm bench in pitchpin folk art 1900

Marvel of asymmetrical details, of texture - here the almost ravine of soft wood - of subtle proportions and deliberate speech, this small bench of pitchpin made on the farm at the beginning of the 20th because we needed, but decorated with foliage to make it prettier, has crossed the century. Here he is with his shaker sincerity, his hudson valley simplicity, and the strength of a small, inimitable work of folk art. We note that the front and back are not identical, that the tray is not really centered, that it has been reinforced below one side only, all these precious and attractive little mysteries.
