Large Ring Jug Simon Peter Gerz – Westerwald, model 570 B, circa 1900. Remarkable large Ring Jug made of Westerwald stoneware, produced by Simon Peter Gerz, Höhr factory in Germany, around the end of the 19th century or the very beginning of the 20th century. This significant circular jug, known as Flachkanne or Ringkanne, bears the characteristic mark of the factory under the base along with the model number 570 B. It features a particularly rich relief decoration, animated with deep cobalt blue, gray, and touches of manganese brown. The center of the body is occupied by a prominent relief medallion depicting a figure dressed in ancient attire or in a historicizing costume, accompanied by a heraldic shield and numerous decorative attributes. The whole is surrounded by compartments adorned with stylized plant motifs, geometric friezes, and scrolls. The neck is particularly spectacular with its fantastic mask forming the spout, while the circular handle is itself decorated with small relief rosettes. The richness of the decoration and the monumental construction of this piece are characteristic of the German historicist taste of the period. Characteristics: Manufacturer: Simon Peter Gerz.
