Antique 18th Century Church Altar Candlestick Converted to Table Lamp. This striking 18th-century altar candlestick has been thoughtfully transformed into a distinctive table lamp, blending historic craftsmanship with later functionality. Originally carved as a wooden church altar candlestick, the stand features a hand-carved central column set on an octagonal base. The lower section is supported by three carved lion’s feet, while elegant leaf motifs adorn the shaft. At the top remains the original wooden candle drip pan — a charming reminder of its ecclesiastical origins. The candlestick retains its painted finish, which has beautifully worn over time. Areas of natural paint loss, small chips to the wood, and evidence of historic worm holes have combined to create a rich, authentic patina that speaks to its age and long history. In the 20th century, the piece was converted into an electric lamp and fitted with a hide skin shade, sympathetically added later in its life. The shade complements the warm tones of the aged wood while allowing the historic base to remain the focal point. A decorative and characterful piece — a rare example of an 18th-century altar candlestick reimagined for modern use while preserving its original craftsmanship and presence. The lamp is in good working condition with a white-coloured flex with a gold toggle on/off button and is fitted with a 2-pin European plug and takes 1 small screw-in bulb E14. The surface displays an attractive aged patina, with visible chips to the wood and evidence of historic worm holes, consistent with its considerable age and authentic wear. There are water stains on the octagonal base. The shade is in good vintage condition with no splits. Please study the photos.
