Important half-moon sideboard with marble top in two parts; it opens with four doors, two of which are curved, topped with two drawers on pivots; superb gilt bronze pull handles. Very fine quality cabinetwork in solid mahogany, mahogany and violet wood veneer and black and light wood fillets. Identical model reproduced in “the Paris Salons 1895-1914” volume III: Furniture by Alastair Duncan, publisher of “Antique Collector's Club” which dates it from 1911 and specifies its presence at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs of 1911. See page 163 below, page 164 bottom right. Maurice DUFRENE (1876 – 1955) interior designer, decorator and cabinetmaker. On the back a label from the Chenue house “packer” 6, rue de la terrasse in Paris and handwritten mention “Dufrene” Good condition; formerly was surmounted by a mirror above, presence of the throat receiving it.
