A very well executed mid-century modernist oil painting that captures the essence of a serene parisian cityscape, signed by the established swedish artist max gregor carlsson (1914-1996), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the malmö museum, eskilstuna art museum, ystads museum, norrköping city collection, the landskrona konsthall. In the foreground, a graceful bridge spans across a tranquil river. The bridge guides our gaze to the background of the painting, which features rows of neatly arranged buildings and touches of greenery. The painting has a rather structured feel – brought forth through the use of geometric shapes to represent the architectural forms, as well as the orderly use of a limited and muted colour palette. Nevertheless, the use of visible and expressive brushstrokes balances the overall work and adds a touch of energy. This oil on canvas is housed in a slim wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some wear in keeping with its age.
