Acanthus platter in Malicorne earthenware, 18th century

Spectacular white Malicorne earthenware centerpiece from the Bourg Joly workshop, dating from 1747 and still in production. The supple and vibrant form, entirely hand-modeled, the soft, milky matte glaze, and the pleasing proportions make this a sublime little masterpiece. This particular piece is antique, with some wear to a few points and traces of previous use on the thick glaze. 39cm x 31cm x 6cm. Irresistibly striking.
