Design Table Lamp Snail by Marzio Cecchi, Murano glass and wood, Italy circa 1960. Modernist table lamp in a naturalistic shape depicting a snail. Italian work from the 1960s. Created by Marzio Cecchi and published by Dimensione Fuoco. Piece signed by the artist embossed on the wooden terrace. The body of the animal is sculpted from solid wood with visible and contrasting grain, representing the stretched foot and the head with raised tentacles. Topped with a significant shell forming a light diffuser, made of Murano glass using the so-called "pulegoso" technique (thick glass with a honeycomb structure and micro-bubble inclusions). Decorated in warm amber, brown, and orange hues. Very good condition. Micro-traces of use inherent to its age. Original electrification in working order. Twisted cable covered in period fabric (note that the textile is somewhat dry/stiff with age, wear over time). Measurements: • Length: 50 cm. • Width: 30 cm. • Height: 42 cm. • Net weight: 6.4 kg. Note on the designer Marzio Cecchi: Born near Florence in 1940, Marzio Cecchi grew up in a family environment focused on creation, his mother, Giulia Carla Cecchi, being a well-known figure in Florentine haute couture. Graduating from the University of Architecture in Florence, he quickly established himself as a designer, creating all of his projects. A multidisciplinary and avant-garde creator, both an architect and designer, he passed away prematurely in an accident in New York in 1990. He left behind a unique body of work, rich in often one-of-a-kind pieces, now particularly sought after by collectors in the design market.
