Very rare Art Deco desk produced by S.A. Casa Moderna in Genoa, Italy, circa 1936. The piece forms part of the so-called “Studio 900” office ensemble, as confirmed by the original invoice from 1936. The design is defined by a strong architectural form with solid side panels and a thick rounded top. The desk is executed in beautiful burl walnut veneer displaying a lively grain pattern and warm tonal variations. The subtly rounded edges and carefully continued veneer give the piece a calm yet luxurious presence. At the front are two drawers with their original keys and tassels. The desk stands on wide panel legs, giving it a grounded and almost monumental appearance. Due to the absence of other documented examples, this desk was likely produced in a very limited quantity or possibly made to order. The piece still retains the original Casa Moderna metal label, a furniture manufacturer from Genoa that supplied furniture to the higher end of the market. A remarkable and rarely encountered Italian desk from the interwar period, featuring a beautiful patina that enhances the character of the piece. In good condition with light signs of use.
