Old baoulé chair from ivory coast dating from the end of the 20th century - beautiful patina of use.- one of the few ethnic groups in africa that uses the technique of assembly for their furniture. In africa, there is a whole culture around the seats being one of the only pieces of furniture that they use for common, exceptional and/or official use. The seats, by the incredible diversity of their shape, attest to the existence of a plurality of styles and aesthetics. The way one sits reveals relations of power and domination as well as a cultural system based on a highly hierarchical stratification of society. Sitting is a privilege. This lovely little baoulé chair, with a refined design, will bring personality to your interior. * slightly lighter than in the photo. **each piece is unique and therefore slightly delayed from the photo but all 4 in very good condition. Send me a message for more photos and exact measurement of each.
