Canapé "Le Bambole" by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia, 1970s. A key figure in post-war Italian design, Mario Bellini created the Bambole series for B&B Italia to challenge traditional ideas of structure and comfort. The Bibambola, a two-seater from this award-winning collection, reflects this shift with its welcoming shape and relaxed posture. Originally introduced in the early 1970s, the design received the Compasso d’Oro in 1979. The model presented here is an old and authentic version (see photos of the underside of the sofa), constructed with a concealed plastic frame and wrapped in polyurethane. The design is defined by its continuous contours and deep, soft body. The volume of the sofa is structured yet supple, remaining in very good condition, forming a low, cocooning, and very comfortable seat that adapts to the user. The stitched seams divide the shape into quadrants, adding rhythm and clarity to its otherwise organic form. Bellini's concept for the Bambole was based on moving away from rigid divisions between the backrest, armrest, and seat, resulting in a unified volume. Here, this idea takes shape in a sofa that is both sculptural and functional. The sofa has been carefully reupholstered, preserving the warmth and texture associated with the early production models, and the petrol blue upholstery adds a sophisticated colour and luxurious texture to any space. Seat height 38 cm.
