ALFREDO BARBINI (1912-2007), Murano, glass vase decorated with diamonds, circa 1970. Engraved signature "BARBINI MURANO". Height 32 cm. Very good condition. The vase incorporates gold flakes embedded in the glass (polvere d'oro), which gives golden and luminous reflections under the ruby red layer. ALFREDO BARBINI is an Italian master glassmaker, designer, and entrepreneur, regarded as one of the major figures in Murano glass art in the 20th century. He is particularly famous for his sculptural and massive glass forms (vetri pesanti), crafted with tongs and hot scissors. He distinguished himself through his mastery of the sommerso technique (layering transparent glass over coloured glass) and sfumato glass. He is also well-known for his series of animals (fish, glass aquariums) and floral patterns. Throughout his career, BARBINI received several Italian and Venetian honorary distinctions (notably the title of Commendatore and the Osella d'Oro). Located in Paris Sentier (75002) Price: €460.
