Germany / 1960 / wire pending lamp / paul secon for sompex / plastic / mid-century / vintage. Vintage pendant lamp made of perspex and woven wire, designed by paul secon for sompex, germany ca. 1960. Clear design with a lucite perspex frame and woven nylon wire. Paul secon design many variations of this iconic lamp. The perspex dome allows maximum light diffusion and the graphical woven wire creates a dramatic lighting effect. Sompex was founded in 1948 by rolf o. Burghard as the soest import en export company in soest, north rhine-westphalia, germany. In 1950 they moved to düsseldorf. Sompex was the exclusive importer of scandinavian design and expanded rapidly. since the 1970’s sompex is focused on interior lighting. the company is a family business and it still exists.
