Syrian walnut table – late 19th century

This small walnut table wonderfully illustrates the excellence of Syrian workshops from the late 19th century, where meticulous carving and mother-of-pearl inlay combine to create pieces of exceptional refinement. The walnut, chosen for its warmth and density, is worked with remarkable virtuosity: each surface is animated with scrolls, interlacing patterns, and deeply carved geometric motifs, giving the whole a vibrant and almost architectural presence. The tops and panels are enhanced with finely cut mother-of-pearl inlays, whose iridescent glints highlight the delicacy of the decoration and bring a subtle light to the surface of the wood.
