Ferdinand schultz-wettel (1872-1957) oil on canvas "bouquet of flowers in a vase" signed lower right dimensions: 55x46cm very good condition *ferdinand schultz-wettel was born in mulhouse in 1872. He trained mainly at the berlin school of fine arts from 1890 to 1893 then took private lessons in paris, where he was notably a student of the famous w. Bouguerau and tony robert-fleury. He married a woman from obernai and settled in obernai in 1914. Expelled in 1941 by the nazis, with 14 other notable families, he stayed in lyon, limoges and finally solignac where his name mr. "vettel" is still cited and known today. Back in obernai, he had to face the loss of all his possessions as well as his works and his engraving equipment. During his career, he exhibited regularly in paris, munich, berlin, london and in the strasbourg galleries. In 1922, he presented the famous geispolsheim procession at the salon of the national society of fine arts. From 1926 he exhibited regularly at the salon des artistes français, of which he became an associate member in 1924, which allowed him to make himself known beyond the borders of france. Faithful to his academic training, ferdinand schultz-wettel excelled in many genres and techniques such as advertising creation, posters, wine labels, book illustration, stories, school books, nudes, flora, scenes, etc. He is capable of tackling all genres, but he made portraiture his favorite art by mastering all techniques: engraving, oil, charcoal, pastel... His graphic production, lithographs, engravings, etchings, monotypes, absolutely remarkable moreover, is unanimously recognized in europe and in the world. Ferdinand schultz-wettel died in obernai on january 10, 1957 and rests in the protestant cemetery of obernai. He donated his works to the city of obernai, some of which were restored in 2008 and 2009.
