Very beautiful pair of Cognac armchairs, designed in 1967 by Eero Aarnio and produced by the publisher Asko, inspired by a cognac glass, this model perfectly embodies the experimental spirit of the late 1960s. First presented at the Cologne Furniture Fair, this seat demonstrates the Finnish designer's desire to free form from any superfluous constraints in favour of a fluid gesture. Entirely made of fibreglass, enhancing its sculptural aspect. The swivel seats offer great comfort, enhanced by an interior covering of alpaca velvet, providing warmth and refinement. Fully restored and reupholstered, these armchairs are in excellent condition and ready for use. Eero Aarnio is a Finnish designer, a major figure in futuristic design in the second half of the 20th century. Trained at the Helsinki Institute of Industrial Arts, he began his career in the 1950s before founding his own studio in 1962. He stands out for his resolutely innovative approach, exploring fibreglass, moulded plastic, and monobloc structures. His iconic creations, such as the Ball Chair, the Bubble Chair, and the Cognac armchair, have become icons of 1960s pop culture. Eero Aarnio's work is set against the backdrop of Space Age design in the 1960s and 1970s, characterised by a search for formal freedom and an optimistic vision of modernity. His work, widely disseminated internationally, has profoundly renewed the language of modern design.
