A wonderfully proportioned two-tier bar cart / serving table / trolley from the 1950s. A beautiful and characteristic piece of Viennese Modernism, designed by Oswald Haerdtl. Visually appealing with its elegant flowing lines. Crafted from walnut and set on its original large white rubber casters. Particularly noteworthy is that the original elegant black opaline glass has been preserved—glass of this kind is no longer produced today and is no longer available. This bar cart stands out with its well-defined, beautifully curved shape. The piece is in very good condition, having been professionally and carefully restored with great attention to preserving its original character. Due to its age, the glass shows minor signs of age, such as fine, light scratches. This piece is a wonderful example of authentic Austrian Mid-Century design. Measurements: width 28“, depth 16“, height 29" Oswaldt Haerdtl (1899–1959) studied with Oskar Strnad and Josef Frank, and later assisted Josef Hoffmann before taking up a teaching position at the Vienna Academy of Applied Arts in 1949. His designs—ranging from furniture and glass to silver and interior spaces—were implemented in a variety of public commissions across Vienna in the 1950s, including the Museum of the City of Vienna, the Tanzcafé Volksgarten (1958), the Graben Café, and the interior outfitting of Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) train cars.
