Jean Gerbino's ceramic goat-shaped water jug, or gargoulette, is an exceptional piece, very rare to find and in perfect condition. This artist, born in 1876 and died in 1966, began his career in Italy before joining the workshop of Delphin Massier. In 1930, he founded his own workshop in Vallauris, where he developed an innovative ceramic mosaic technique that distinguished him from his contemporaries, such as Roger Capron and Pablo Picasso. Gerbino established himself in the artistic circles of the French Riviera, surrounded by influential figures like Jean Cocteau and Jean Lurçat. This work testifies to his unique expertise and the creative spirit that marked the ceramic art of the region. To own a piece by Gerbino is to possess a piece of 20th-century artistic history.
