Screen decorated with plants and birds in woolen threads, inspired by "huichol" art, signed "sofia ribeira". The screen measures approximately 2 meters when unfolded, 123 cm high. In excellent state of conservation. Some minimal traces of wear attesting to its authenticity. The screen is upholstered with yellow ocher velvet fabric on the back. See detail photos. Huichol art comes from the crafts produced by the huichol people living in the states of jalisco, durango, zacatecas and nayarit in mexico. The unifying factor of the work is the colorful decoration using symbols and designs that date back centuries. The most common products are “thread paints” (cuadros de estambre). The woolen threads are pressed into boards coated with wax and resin and are derived from a ceremonial tablet called a neirika. A work by the artist huichol "santos de la torre santiago" adorns the palais royal musée du louvre metro station in paris.
