Glazed ceramic jug in green and brown by the ceramist and painter Pierre Roulot, circa 1950. Glazed ceramic with a slightly crackled finish in shades of green. The unglazed base features a beautiful matte brown texture, providing a contrast of colours and materials. There are a few small chips at the base, consistent with use. Creation by Pierre Roulot (1917-2007), a French painter and ceramist who notably worked for Pol Chambost, Georges Jouve, and the Daum glassworks. His work, close to popular craftsmanship, was exhibited at the legendary Steph Simon gallery in the 1950s and 60s, a rare privilege for a ceramist. Height 17 cm — Width at the handle 12 cm — Diameter 8 cm.
